Japanese spiders

Japanese spiders are pretty hardcore. Not only are many of them big and black and bright green, but on the way to my bus stop one of them has built a /huge/ web. It goes from the telephone wire all the way to a fence about 3 feet off the ground. It's about two stories tall. I've also seen one that had an acorn hanging in it.

I give that particular spider wide berth when I have to walk past it. The spider that made it is pretty big for a random spider too, about as big as my palm including the legs.

I feel sorta bad though, that web has been up for two or three weeks, but the weather was really bad today (typhoon), so it's probably gone. It'd be a huge amount of work for the spider to rebuild it. I wish I had gotten pictures.
